Fred Amoroso, President & CEO
As Macrovision Solutions’ president and chief executive officer, Fred Amoroso brings extensive leadership experience in the information technology, communications and insurance arenas—with executive roles spanning from advisor to general manager to partner to president and chief executive officer.
Mr. Amoroso served as President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of Macrovision Corporation's board of directors from July 2005 until May 2008, when the acquisition of Gemstar-TV Guide International by Macrovision Corporation was completed. Mr. Amoroso now serves as President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of Macrovision Solutions’ board of directors. From September 2004 to June 2005, Mr. Amoroso served as an advisor to Warburg Pincus, an investment firm. From July 2002 to August 2004, Mr. Amoroso served as the President, Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of Meta Group, an information technology research and advisory firm. From October 1999 until its merger with IBM in January 2002, Mr. Amoroso served as President, Chief Executive Officer and a director of CrossWorlds Software, Inc. Mr. Amoroso serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors and on the audit, nominating, legal compliance and executive committees of the board of Foundry Networks, Inc., a provider of network hardware and telecommunication services.
Mr. Amoroso holds a B.S. in systems engineering and M.S. in operations research from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.
James Budge, Chief Financial Officer
James Budge served as chief financial officer of Macrovision Corporation from September 2005 until May 2008, when the acquisition of Gemstar-TV Guide International by Macrovision Corporation was completed. Mr. Budge now serves as chief financial officer of Macrovision Solutions. Mr. Budge served as chief financial officer of Trados, Inc., an enterprise management software provider, from January 2004 until its merger with SDL International in August 2005. From August 2002 until joining Trados, Mr. Budge served as chief financial officer of Sendmail, Inc., a secure email provider, and from April 1999 until its merger with IBM in January 2002, Mr. Budge served as chief financial officer of CrossWorlds Software, Inc., a provider of business infrastructure software.
Mr. Budge holds a B.S. in Accounting from Brigham Young University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Stephen Yu, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Stephen Yu served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Macrovision Corporation from May 2006 until May 2008, when the acquisition of Gemstar-TV Guide International by Macrovision Corporation was completed. Mr. Yu now serves as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Macrovision Solutions. Mr. Yu served as vice president, general counsel and secretary of Aspect Communications Corporation, a provider of contact center solutions, from April 2003 until its acquisition by Concerto Software, Inc. in September 2005. From June 2002 to January 2003, Mr. Yu served as vice president, general counsel and secretary of Riverstone Networks, Inc., a provider of ethernet network solutions, and from September 1999 to May 2002, he served as vice president, general counsel and secretary of Palm, Inc., a provider of mobile computing solutions.
Mr. Yu holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Purdue University and a J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center. Mr. Yu is a member of the California State bar.
Tom Carson -- Executive Vice President, Sales & Services
As executive vice president of sales & services at Macrovision Solutions, Tom Carson runs global sales and services across all markets. He has more than 25 years of experience in the consumer electronics industry, managing sales, marketing, operations, and patent & licensing activities, particularly with television manufacturers.
From April 2006 until its acquisition by Macrovision Solutions in May 2008, Mr. Carson was president of Gemstar-TV Guide International's North American IPG business. In this position, he managed the collective operations of the group, which was responsible for all of the company's North American IPG businesses, including cable and satellite and consumer electronics. He also oversaw Aptiv Digital, which was acquired by Gemstar-TV Guide in March, 2007. Mr. Carson previously held the position of president for Gemstar-TV Guide On Screen and was promoted when that business combined with the operations of TV Guide Interactive.
Prior to Gemstar-TV Guide, Mr. Carson worked in a variety of executive positions at Thomson Corporation, most recently as executive vice president of Thomson's Program Office. In this role, he directed operational programs to improve efficiency in areas such as manufacturing, supply chain, support functions, and product development. While at Thompson Corporation, Mr. Carson also served as executive vice president, global sales and marketing services; executive vice president, patents and licensing; vice president, global sales, marketing, and Americas representative. Additionally, he served in an operational leadership role as vice president, Americas picture tube operations.
Eric Free – Executive Vice President, Product Development
Eric Free joined Macrovision Corporation in 2001 and most recently served as executive vice president of the Embedded Solutions Business Unit until May 2008, when the acquisition of Gemstar-TV Guide International by Macrovision Corporation was completed. Mr. Free now serves as executive vice president of product development at Macrovision Solutions. Mr. Free headed business development for Electrifier, Inc., a leading streaming media technology company prior to joining Macrovision Corporation. Additionally, he has worked for several venture capital funds, and has led engineering teams for a multinational professional services firm.
Mr. Free holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Duke University, a Master's of Science in Engineering from Stanford University, a Master's of Business Administration degree from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, and a Master of Arts degree, concentrating in international affairs, from Georgetown University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer.
Steve Shannon – Executive Vice President, Product Management
Steve Shannon is executive vice president of product management at Macrovision Solutions where he is responsible for Macrovision’s product strategy. From January 2006 until its acquisition by Macrovision Solutions in May 2008, Mr. Shannon served as executive vice president & general manager of product development at Gemstar-TV Guide International. He also ran the company's cross-platform Product Development and Technology group which, under his leadership, developed and launched My TV Guide, a suite of cross-platform personalized guidance tools and services designed to help consumers address the complexity in the video entertainment landscape brought about by rapidly expanding choices and new forms of content.
Prior to joining Gemstar-TV Guide, Mr. Shannon founded Akimbo Systems, the world's first Internet-delivered, video-on-demand service designed for television. He served as the company's CEO during its first year of operation and then served as executive vice president of sales and marketing where he was responsible for strategy, sales, marketing, and programming. In 1998 Mr. Shannon helped co-found ReplayTV, where he served as the vice president of marketing and sales, helping to launch the world's first digital video recorder. When ReplayTV was acquired by SONICblue, Inc., he was responsible for marketing their Rio MP3 players as well as the ReplayTV product lines.
Before ReplayTV, Mr. Shannon was director of Internet authoring at Macromedia, where he launched Dreamweaver, Macromedia's market-leading Web-authoring tool. Mr. Shannon joined Macromedia when it purchased iband, a company he co-founded and the original developer of Dreamweaver. He has also worked at Coopers & Lybrand, Paramount Pictures, MGM/UA, and Capitol Records.
Mr. Shannon holds a bachelor's degree from UCLA and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
John Moakley – Senior Vice President of Data Services
As Macrovision Solutions’ senior vice president of data services, John Moakley is responsible for running all data services at Macrovision Solutions, including TV Guide and AMG metadata. Mr. Moakley joined Macrovision Solutions in 2008 when Macrovision acquired Gemstar-TV Guide.
From 1999 until its acquisition by Macrovision Solutions in May 2008, Mr. Moakley served as senior vice president of data solutions at Gemstar-TV Guide International, where he managed the company’s data collection and distribution business. While at Gemstar-TV Guide, he also held the role of vice president of technology for the Content Infrastructure group, which was responsible for leading efforts to modernize its extensive TV show listings database, an integral part of TV Guide’s guidance solutions.
Prior to joining Gemstar-TV Guide, Mr. Moakley was a founding consultant of Compass Consulting Group, a division of Autistics, a leading supply chain software company. He also served as a vice president at the management consulting firm, Herbert W. Davis & Company.
Mr. Moakley holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Rutgers University, and an MBA from Rutgers Graduate School of Management.
Eileen Schloss – Executive Vice President, Human Resources
Eileen Schloss served as executive vice president of human resources at Macrovision Corporation from May 2007 until May 2008, when the acquisition of Gemstar-TV Guide International by Macrovision Corporation was completed. Ms. Schloss now serves as executive vice president of human resources at Macrovision Solutions. Schloss is an HR veteran with more than 20 years in a corporate administrative function, specializing in recruiting and developing company talent, designing workforce infrastructures and executive development programs, and establishing performance management practices.
Prior to joining Macrovision, Schloss served as vice president of administration at Caspian Networks, where she was responsible for HR, IT, legal, real estate, facilities and customer support. Prior to Caspian, Schloss served as senior vice president of human resources at Exodus Communications and executive vice president of administration at AppGenesys. Prior to these roles, Schloss was vice president of human resources for Apple Computer, where she led a 180-person global HR organization. Schloss has also held senior-level positions at Charles Schwab, Tandem Computers, NEC Electronics, Shugart Electronics and Hewlett Packard.
Schloss holds a Masters of Science degree in Technology Management from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Behavior from University of San Francisco.
Jim Wickett – Executive Vice President of Corporate Development
Jim Wickett joined Macrovision Corporation in February 2004 as executive vice president of corporate development and served in this role until May 2008 when the acquisition of Gemstar-TV Guide International by Macrovision Corporation was completed. Mr. Wickett now serves as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development at Macrovision Solutions. Wickett brings over 25 years of investment and operational management experience in the fields of enterprise software, Internet services and media. Before joining Macrovision, Wickett was a consultant in the entertainment and computer industries, primarily helping independent producers and venture-backed companies. Wicket also served as a general partner in Bay Partners, an early stage venture fund, and was senior vice president for worldwide business development at PointCast, Inc., an Internet and Intranet news broadcast company. Prior to PointCast, he was COO for Rocket Science Games, Inc., which was acquired by Sega.
Corey Ferengul – Executive Vice President, Marketing
Corey Ferengul served as executive vice president of Marketing and Solutions at Macrovision Corporation from May 2006 until May 2008 when the acquisition of Gemstar-TV Guide International by Macrovision Corporation was completed. Mr. Ferengul now serves as Executive Vice President of Marketing at Macrovision Solutions. Before joining Macrovision, Mr. Ferengul was executive vice president and group leader at Infogix (formerly known as Unitech Systems) where he was in charge of marketing and product strategy. At Infogix, Mr. Ferengul established the product management group, which held responsibilities for creating new product vision/roadmaps and executing on the product planning process. Prior to this position, Mr. Ferengul served as senior vice president and director of Enterprise System Management at The Meta Group. As an industry recognized software expert, Ferengul had oversight into the research and activities for over $30 million in service revenue. His clients included IBM, HP, Microsoft, Veritas, BMC Software, Computer Associates, Compuware and Peregrine.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Ferengul was the director of product integration at PLATINUM Technology, where his leadership helped grow the company from $35 million to nearly $1 billion dollars in revenue. He led the integration of nearly 15 acquisitions into a single cohesive product line, equaling up to half of the company’s revenues. Mr. Ferengul also held various positions in telesales, product management, and product marketing at PLATINUM Technology.
Mr. Ferengul received a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University.
Paul Greenberg – Senior Vice President of Online
Paul Greenberg is senior vice president of Online at Macrovision Solutions where he is responsible for all online properties, specifically tvguide.com and allmusic.com, including the management of the web sites, including editorial, production, marketing and product management.
From March 2006 until its acquisition by Macrovision Solutions in May 2008, Mr. Greenberg served as general manager of TV Guide Online at Gemstar-TV Guide International. He was responsible for the leadership, strategic development and day-to-day management of all TV Guide Web sites, including editorial, production, marketing and product development.
Prior to Gemstar-TV Guide, Mr. Greenberg served as senior vice president of global business development and partner relations at Music Net, a leading online music provider. He managed the Partner Relations department, leading the strategic and operational implementation of the Music Net service for distributors. He also led the marketing, public relations and International groups.
Prior to joining Music Net, Mr. Greenberg worked at MTV Networks as vice president of business operations for MTV.com, where he developed new content revenue streams, managed integration of major online operating divisions and helped double site revenue and traffic in one year. Mr. Greenberg also served as vice president of new business development at the Move Group, where he was responsible for developing and executing strategy and partnerships as well as content syndication.
Mr. Greenberg holds a Bachelor's degree from Columbia College and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School.
